Outpatient surgery centers continue to multiply in Pennsylvania, and their profit margins remained high despite the recession. That’s raising concerns among regular hospitals, who argue outpatient centers skim off the most well-off patients, leaving them to provide the safety net for poorer patients. Pennsylvania now has 262 outpatient surgery centers — more than three times as many as in 2000, according to a new report from the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council. The surgery date got changed a few times.  Then I was out of state for a few days.  When I returned Sunday night there was a message my first (actually seventh!) arm/shoulder surgery is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 a.m.   As in - today! Briefcase is out of town, of course.   I panicked.
