The Politics And Economics In Slowing Down The Marketing And ...

Long before the creation of the US President’s Council on Bioethics, in the early 1980’s the FDA had been terrorizing any anti aging programs or organizations. At that time , they were already starting to worry about the problems of over population and in particular the problems with our social welfare systems of Social Security and Medicare. In 1991 Saul Kent and Bill Faloon, the principals of the Life Extension Foundation had products confiscated and were incarcerated. They were told by the FDA that they would turn out to be the target of criminal indictments that would “destroy [more...]

Science-Based Medicine » Testosterone: Not an Anti-Aging Panacea

Longevity clinics and individual practitioners are offering testosterone to men as a general pick-me-up and anti-aging treatment. Their practice is not supported by the scientific evidence. Men’s testosterone levels drop as they age. According to a review article in the New England Journal of Medicine the decrease in testosterone in men occurs moderately and gradually over a period of several decades. The serum total testosterone concentration decreases from a mean of about 600 ng per deciliter (20.8 nmol per liter) at 30 years of age to a mean of about 400 ng per deciliter (13.9 nmol per [more...]

Colorado Springs Business Journal » Blog Archive » Natural gas ...

The emergency plans for companies operating natural gas pipelines like the one that exploded in San Bruno, Calif., killing eight people and destroying a neighborhood, are effectively off-limits to the public and industry watchdogs because the federal pipeline safety agency itself doesn’t have copies. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration policy means companies can keep their emergency plans hidden from people who might live near natural gas transmission lines. Because the government doesn’t have copies of the plans, the public can’t use the nation’s open records [more...]

Non-contrast computed tomography (CT) is the recommended imaging modality for the diagnosis of ischemic stroke according to the American Heart Association. However, the sensitivity of non-contrast images for stroke is between 40% and 60%. This prospective study sought to identify whether non-contrast CT imaging combined with CT angiography and CT perfusion studies would significantly improve stroke diagnosis when compared to non-contrast CT alone. The researchers entered into the study 191 patients who had arrived at the emergency department (ED) within 3h of stroke symptom onset. All [more...]

Many hopeful about Russian scientist's anti-aging drug

So, it must be doing something with the aging itself,” Maksim Skulachev Cand. Sc. (Biology) explains. “Then, if authorities will accept this logic, maybe we could somehow market it as anti-aging drug.” After success with eye drops in animals, the inventor tried the medicine on his own cataract. Six months later, his physician told him his cataract was gone. Thousands are queuing to take part in the clinical trials, which have just begun. But it will be a few years before Dr Skulachev's discovery reaches the shelves of an average pharmacy. Some have already dubbed the drug a [more...]
